Terry Sedgewick

Why did you choose a career in health and fitness?

I’m a teacher by heart, and I have a real passion for sports and fitness. My love for health and fitness began at the age of 10, when I wanted to be like my older brother who had become a good high school athlete. He had a passion for fitness that I had not seen in many other people; this drive inspired me to follow. This led to university, resulting in an undergraduate degree in Physical Education, and some post-graduate work in the same field of study. Jesus Christ has been my Shepherd, who has guided my path as He has created my successes and steadied the ship.

What qualifies you to do this work?

I love people, and I find it rewarding when people achieve their goals. This is not work for me – training sessions are dynamic, creative, stimulating, life-altering, body-changing, and they are an opportunity to positively impact someone’s life. I have had the opportunity to play and be involved in athletics my whole life, ranging from rugby to triathlons to marshal arts. The blessing of being able to attend university has further aided this ever-increasing background, which has made this wheel of diversity well tuned. I used to own a specialty running shoe store in Irvine, CA. I also spent three years in a Physical Therapy office learning and performing return-to-activity exercise and soft tissue techniques. I have been building champions since 1987.

What sports have you played and at what level?

  • Duathlon and Triathlon amateur and Professional Team Canada International Competing Team, World Championships 1991-1995

  • Basketball: Junior high, high school, junior college
  • Baseball: Elementary school to high school

What’s your favorite quote?

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

What is your biggest training success story?

Luke Lewis, a client who came in and did our “40 lbs in 40 Days” program. He did it and has learned to live the lifestyle that will endure over the course of his life.

What is the biggest health myth?

Dieting. Diets don’t work; changing your lifestyle is the only way to achieve long-lasting health results.

What would you do if you could change the world, health wise?

I would get rid of wasted TV time, video games, drive-throughs, convenience stores, packaged food, deep-fried food, oversized clothing, food servings that are too big, soda, diets, and any diet food. After all that, I would begin to teach the “7 Keys to Health and Fitness.”

How has fitness influenced your mindset toward life?

Fitness is a component of my life; it is a component that I never leave because it is part of the “7 Keys to Health and Fitness.” The first and most important key is Faith in Christ.

What fitness figure or athlete do you respect, and why?

Christ, because he gave it all every time. Michael Jones of the New Zealand All Blacks: He placed Christ before all and jeopardized his athletic future, financial future and reputation to uphold his faith above all else.

What benefits take place in someone as they get fit?

Mental clarity, confidence, vitality, general sense of positiveness, happier, stronger, posture, clothes fit, they begin to live the life that has been taken from them by their poor lifestyle choices.
